Society And Today's Perception Of Beautiful by Elizabeth Tedder

Today’s society, in my opinion, has become a vicious cycle of what you are, is what you look like.

The beginning is the appearance.  To be seen in the public eye as beautiful you must be skinny and buy into today’s products, especially cosmetics and clothes – you must be with the times.  But I ask why must you be skinny, or wear the proper make-up?  There is a movement of plus-size models.  Unfortunately, it has to compete with the new trend of being too thin, with bones showing throughout their bodies, including their faces to make them look angular.  Cosmetics are applied to a degree of inhumanity.  They seem to become dolls.  How horrendous is a society that believes makeup qualifies you as beautiful?  I myself refuse to wear makeup because of society’s take on it.  Also, I’m allergic.  I also happen to be a very thin person.  I have been on many different diets to gain weight, and yet it seems impossible.  Trust me, being skinny is not all it cracked up to be.  Why must clothes make the person - woman, man or child?  Today’s children, for example, are mercilessly teased if they are not in fashion.  They believe they must dress like the person in the movies, or on their favorite television show, or maybe even their favorite popstar – makeup and all.

I realize not all of the people in today’s society are basing their associations on one’s appearance.  However, I ask you to try to not look at somebody through a conversation, not your eyes.
